Any of you had NLP therapy?

Postby Stealth » Tue May 01, 2012 9:21 am

Have any of you had NLP and/or hypnotherapy done to you by an expert in the field? Care to share your experiences?

From ages 12-(roughly) 16 I suffered from M.E or glandular fever. I was too ill to go to school so had home tuition of only 75 mins a day as that's all I had the energy for. Pretty depressed, never saw my friends etc, I was pretty fucked up. Dark period in my life.

I started looking into self help, starting with Paul McKenna. His ex head assistant worked in London so my dad paid for me to have some sessions with him. I think I had 3-4 sessions mixing both NLP and hypnosis.

Completely flip reversed my psyche and although I wasn't 'cured' instantly, over the next year my life changed pretty dramatically. I went back to school then onto college studying art/graphic design.

M.E is a viral condition that fatigued my whole body so to expect it to go instantly would be ridiculous BUT it did heal the problems in my psyche that I believe caused the physical problems in the first place. Once my mind was in a better place the body healed itself.

Unfortunately some people never FULLY recover from the condition, but i'm 23 now, work a physical full time job, gym 4-5 days a week + going out at night a fair bit and i'm completely healthy.

I was also pretty close to my doc at the time and I know he was recommending this guy personally after my experience with him, so hopefully other people got some results too.

Game wise - big fan of Steve P and Hypnotica, feel their stuff has given me a much more solid inner game than I had before.

Just met Steve P at Project X. He zonked us twice. I would def check into his stuff. That night I was opening some super hotties(hottest ever opened before, damn Phoenix has some hot ass women) and a lot of it, i think was from his stuff. I was also pretty sick that night but I pushed on.

I took a couple hypnotherapy classes a few years back. I was very skeptical about it but not anymore. Remind me to tell you about that and Steve P.

Thanks for the great feedback fellas.

I've been reading an NLP book that Maestro gave me, but I have trouble/don't see much results from the exercises. So I was thinking about finding someone experienced to help me out with it, because I am probably doing things wrong.

The reason I wrote this thread is, while i was googling this stuff, you come across a whole bunch of sites that claim that NLP is a scam, etc.

Hey Stealth,

NLP is great. I'm certified in it, use it on myself and my clients. I'd love to answer some of your questions in this thread, so you gotta be more specific. First of all I gotta ask, what do you want? Be specific with your answers... then I'll reply for the benefit of everyone.

If that's an open ticket - I do have a couple of questions.

-What's the best way to get started, should I start reading and learning, listening to audio, or find/hire a professional?

-What does NLP really do? I mean, I don't expect it to be like the hypnosis in Office Space (though, that would be pretty cool. I hate copy machines) obviously, but can it truly change aspects of your personality?

For example, I suspect that my energy in set probably isn't high enough, and that I'm not being charismatic enough (Not as relaxed as I normally am). Can NLP help correct that?

Charisma and Energy aren't something I (normally interacting with coworkers and friends) have, but when it's a 10/SHB I guess I kind of communicate lower value by not being as enthusiastic.

Awesome, i was hoping we had an expert on this board!

I'd like to be able to get into a state of confidence when I am out in the field and totally out of state or in a state of massive approach anxiety. I've found that "pushing through" doesn't seem to work for me, because I get into this negative spiral where i'm super anxious, approach anyway but im projecting nervousness/negativity/etc which of course results in a bad set which puts me into an even worse state. When this happens I have trouble breaking out of the spiral - and as I understand it, NLP has ways of bringing back states of confidence by anchoring or other methods. I'd like to know the best way to utilize this.

Also, I've tried the exercises such as reliving a slightly painful memory but then putting absurd music to it and replaying it in my head. I've also been trying the circle of confidence thing, and a few other exercises, but honestly they don't seem to have any effect on me really. I'm assuming its something I'm doing wrong.
