Anyone Promote or DJ at clubs?

As a DJ who used to spin at clubs, my best advice on building a following is to create/get access to the VIP list. Have people RSVP by Thursday and reward them with free entry/VIP line/whatever you decide. Then using the contact list to stay in touch with people and let them know where you're going to be playing.

Cool to meet another DJ here! Gnosis is another, always nice to see people in this awesome profession/lifestyle.

Just trying to help a friend out. Has a good venue, and decent food traffic, but too many fights. Needs more women there, so guys think about pussy more, not fighting with each other. I mean these were royal rumble type brawls lol Was wondering if people pay women to go, let them in free, drink coupons....just looking for other ways.

If you've got a lot more fights, you have to consider the format that the club plays. Not to be racist, but when you play a predominantly urban format (hip-hop, rap, etc.), you get gangstas, wannabe gangstas, and the associated hos who hang around them in one enclosed area, and it's an easy recipe for fights.

There was a club I spun at a long time ago. When I had the Friday nights, I played mostly house music & upbeat (120+ bpm) Top 40. Didn't have a problem, it was always classy.

Thursday nights, when they played hip-hop & rap, always had fights. When they moved the format to the full weekend (Thu-Sat, mostly urban music), it was the death knell that caused the club to gain a reputation of fights and douchery. The ladies didn't feel comfortable, so they stopped coming, which in turn meant the guys stopped coming, and soon it was only the gangstas, wannabe-g's, and tourists who didn't know any better who came...

This is true! Get the alpha females and they will lead a huge group of girls.

Social proof and promoting on twitter and Facebook help, but people usually follow their friends.

VIP lists work well, but can deplet a lot more then you get out of it.

This crowd is a ghetto crowd for sure. I don't mind hanging in the hood, with the black and puerto rican crowd, but know from experience if there is pussy around, I would rather get with that, than bang it out with some dude over nothing. That being said, I'm gonna try and find some leader of the pack type females and see if this changes things. The facebook and twitter idea is a good one. Much appreciated.
