Hey everyone, introduction and current sticking point

Postby imaqtpie » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:54 pm

Hey guys,

I'm a 23 year old guy from Philly who just recently picked up a copy of The Game and Rules of the Game and learned about this whole new lifestyle.

WOW.

A little bit about myself. I just graduated from college. I was just in a three year relationship which recently ended (and ended pretty bad). I lost both my living grandparents within the last year (which for me, was actually really rough, since they lived with my family as I grew up). I was accepted into a Ph.D. program on the West Coast, but given everything that I've been through, I couldn't focus on the program at all, so for now, I'm back home.

So now my sticking point. Well, in short, I need to develop my character. I would love to be able to fully master inner game, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some help doing it. The problem is, all of my friends left Philly. Hence why I'm here! My goal is to either go back to graduate school, start my own company, or find a decent job. I'd like to set some kind of time frame, so I don't just waste time, so I'd like to give myself maybe until September to be confident enough in myself to at least decide which of the three I should pursue.

Do you guys think performing the challenges in Rules of the Game is a good starting point? I'm pretty good at interacting with strangers, especially in a non-sexually-threatening manner. I think mostly my problem for now is just getting out to meet people, find new friends in and around Philly.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and hope to hear back from you guys.

P.S. In case Bravo reads this, I ended up choosing to post here, rather than on the Stylelife forums, because I believe that smaller, newer forums have more active members willing to help new members. Also more of the forums are unlocked.

Hey brotha, glad you here.....

Sorry about your losses.... First of all, I went through a bad break-up, that brought me here... I would say about ninety percent of the Bravo memebers went through a bad divorce or break-up, and it brought them here.... Your going to see what you thought the worst thing that happen to you is going to be the best....Sorry about your grandparents, I know thats hard, lost my grandmother right after I graduated high school

I think Rules of the Game is an awesome starting point... Not only will you approach women, but you will work on posture, body language, slowing down your words, etc.... You will be a new man, once you finish that challlenge....And if you continue on this journey, the sky is the limit...There are a few members on this forum that are in Philly, that can help you, be your wing...To me, your inner game improves when you start making a lot of approaches, and dont care what people think...To answer your question, this forum is the best one, the shit!!!! Bravo puts his heart into this, he cares... And, everybody here will give you solid advice, input, critique....

Now, I have a question for you... Does Philly really have the best cheesesteak????

Another good way to increase your inner game is to attend the flashchats. NSM and DJNinja host one on sundays that focuses on inner game, and Smoothcall hosts one on monday nights. Both are excellent resources.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! It's good to know I'm in the right place. Rockstar, Philly cheesesteaks are delicious, but oddly enough, the best one I've ever had was out in Hawaii. Now when it comes to pretzels.. Philly is the uncontested champ.

Thanks for the advice on inner game too, Jay-T, I just might come and sit in on those inner game flash chats that you mentioned.

I actually already did the first two days of the Stylelife Challenge, but it's really the third day that has really given me any issues. Cold-calling random numbers, and afterward changing the topic of conversation to ask for a movie recommendation seems to just terrify me to inaction. Besides calling about 15-20 inactive numbers, when someone does come on the phone, all do is ask for Katie, and then am too scared to actually ask for a movie recommendation. Rationally I know that the worst I can do is run up a phone bill, but I can't seem to ask for a movie recommendation. Any advice?

Pie,

Welcome to the forums brother :)

Great job of getting to Day 2 of the Stylelife Challenge. Advice I have on the call is you act is if this movie recommendation is necessary, A MUST, for you.

Makes you work harder. :D

Second,
I would love to be able to fully master inner game, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to need some help doing it.

i am a HUGE fan of rules of the game. day three is important. so many people post about that and want to skip it and say they don't see the point in it, blah blah blah. there's a reason it's there. i went through probably 20 or 30 calls to complete it, but i did it. and each call i made after the first few, was a little easier. and towards the end, when i already had two and was working on the third one, i actually started to enjoy it.

yes, it's awkward. that's the point of the exercise. it's supposed to be awkward and uncomfortable. and difficult. but that's how we learn. i really just used the script from the book. hardest part was a lot of people that didn't answer. didn't really get blown out. i had a few people laugh and chuckle and say no, but once you start doing it, you'll be amazed at how simple it actually is. myself and the rest of THE COMPANY actually were doing an offshoot of this just for fun at a meet up last year. we were out in street smoking and bullshitting outside of a bar, and we all just started approaching strange groups at random asking for movie recs. was fun. but doing it on the phone is a whole different challenge. stick with it. just follow the script and push hard. it's worth it...

Hey bro welcome to the Bravohood. I found this place in a similar fashion.

Rules of the game is a good start. I would also read The Mystery Method to start.

But really to start you must approach! That is the fastest and only way to level up.

Looking forward to some FR's and LR's from you.
